Tired of running the same track you do everyday? The same old workout can get boring, so it’s important to keep your workout varied to avoid workout fatigue. Healthy activity equals 150 minutes of moderate activity a week or 75 minutes of high intensity activity. So, how can you keep up this activity with something new?
Participating in Intramural Sports is a good way to get at least 30 minutes of moderate to high intensity activity out of the way for the week. And the good news? You can participate in as many Intramural Sports as you like because there are always new games each month. Intramurals are a great way to switch up your workout and enjoy different activities with a group of friends, or even some fellow Iowa State students.
A game of HORSE is fun from time to time, but not all the time. Hop off the court and join a tournament! Intramurals are organized into tournaments and can be played competitively or just for fun, based on your skillset. Intramurals take place throughout the year and are a great way to bond with new friends and old friends while facing off against other teams. Don’t be worried, though, as referees or officials will keep the rules clear and games controlled.
How do you make a team? Teams can be formed in many ways, from a friend group of yours or a club that you’re involved in. You could start a team with friends on your dorm floor or in your Greek organization. Sometimes it’s as simple as asking one of your friends to register, or signing up yourself. Need a little more help? Check out the Free Agent section on our website to find others looking for a team and get signed up together. Not only are Intramurals a great way to get a workout in and partake in healthy competition, but a great way of making new friends. The tournaments are offered in teams, duos, or even singles if you want to get involved by yourself from time to time. The best part? If you’re team makes it to the finals and wins, you earn yourself the coveted Intramural Champion T-shirt!
Are you convinced to try it out and wondering what kind of Intramural tournaments there are? With over 50 Intramurals offered each academic year, there are so many options available! We offer the traditional intramural sports, such as Basketball, Flag Football, and Volleyball. However, we also offer some non-traditional and unique sports, such as Rock Climbing, Table Tennis, or Broomball. We even have Battleship H20, the real-life version of the board game! We also offer some competitive sports that exercise your mind instead of your muscles, such as the card tournaments Euchre Doubles, Texas Hold’em and Hearts Card Tournament.
