Rec Services is now offering both adult and youth swimming lessons at the State Gym Pool. Adults must have a Rec Membership to register. Youth Lessons

All participants must be at least 42 inches tall AND at least 5 years old to participate. Participants are required to bring their own towel and swimsuit. Guardian are not required to stay in the pool area if they have a membership, but must remain in the building. Guardians who do not have a membership are only allowed in the pool area. Only dependents of students or faculty/staff at Iowa State are eligible at this time. There are 5 Levels of swimming lessons at various times.

Schedule: Classes are 30 minutes each and meet at State pool for 4 weeks, twice a week. Please do not arrive in the pool area more than 5 minutes before the start of class to avoid crowding. There are no make-up lessons unless Recreation Services cancels a class due to weather or other concerns.

Pricing:
Both Youth and Guardian have a membership: $53
Guardian has a membership, Youth does not: $69
Neither Guardian nor Youth have a membership: $79

Adult Lessons

All participants must be 18 or older and be a current member of Iowa State Recreation Services. We offer 2 different sections of American Red Cross Group Adult Swim Lessons. Classes are 40 minutes each and meet at State pool for 4 weeks, twice a week. Adult lessons are $53. There are no make-up lessons unless Recreation Services cancels a class due to weather or other concerns.

Improving Skills and Swimming Strokes: This class improves participant’s proficiency in basic water skills, all six strokes are focused on in this level: front crawl, back crawl, butterfly, breaststroke, elementary backstroke and sidestroke. Distance and endurance skills are improved on. Flip turns on the front and back, as well as headfirst entries from the side of the pool are focused on. This level is for intermediate swimmers that feel comfortable in the water.

Learning the Basics: This class introduces basic aquatic skills, concepts to stay safe around the water, and introduces elements of the following strokes: front crawl, elementary backstroke, sidestroke and breaststroke. Other skills focused on include treading water and survival floating. This level is for beginners.
