Miles to Madness

The Miles to Madness physical activity challenge for all of the campus community and Iowa State is in the championship!

Congratulations ISU! We placed 1st overall for miles with 3,520 miles completed in just 2 weeks while placing 3rd in Miles Per Capita! Individual ISU winners will be announced Tuesday March 16th!

  • The challenge will run for 2 weeks, as it starts this Saturday and then continues through Selection Sunday for the March Madness tournament on Sunday, March 14th.
  • Anyone at ISU that intentionally completes physical activity and earns “miles” can submit the miles as part of the competition.
  • This can be tracked via cardio equipment or wearable technology.
  • When a person completes “miles” they must submit them via a google form and include a picture as evidence from the equipment or watch.
  • We will have QR codes on the cardio equipment, around the building, and on our social media that link to this form for people to scan and enter miles.
  • For fitness classes, outdoor activities, at home workouts – if there is a lot of movement on your feet, set your watch to track it as a walk or run for miles. It just has to be intentional physical activity that can be entered as miles. It cannot be a total of steps/miles from the day.

How the competition works:

  • Every 4 days we are up against a different University, whichever school earns the most total miles moves forward in the bracket.
  • Even if we don’t advance in the bracket, we continue going through March 14th to try and win the total overall miles per capita.

When you fill out the form it will ask you to choose your University, and then your mode of physical activity:

  • Treadmill
  • Bike
  • Elliptical
  • Rower
  • Stair Climber
  • Arm Ergometer
  • Indoor Track
  • Pool Lap Swim
  • Fitness Class
  • Outdoor Activity
  • At Home Activity
