You know an intramural champion t-shirt when you see one. This precious shirt doesn’t come with a price tag, but with a championship win in any of our offered intramural tournaments. If you see anyone on campus wearing one, it’s kind of a big deal. And by kind of we mean a huge deal. Winning this shirt means serious bragging rights, so if you don’t have one yet, you should want one.
Each year the shirts have a different design and come in a variety of different colors. Take a look at the 2017-2018 intramural shirts above. For those of you wondering what it feels like to win one of these glorious shirts, I talked with two students who have firsthand experience.
Vicki Kordick, a senior majoring in both marketing and management, has won three intramural t-shirts throughout her college career, all from playing intramural volleyball. She’s always had a love of the sport and played in high school, so she wanted to continue playing in college. She won her first shirt in her sophomore year during the first intramural sport she ever played. Vicki was excited when she won her first shirt because she felt she could finally be a part of a famous Iowa State tradition that she had heard so much about before coming attending college. After her first experience, she continued to win two more shirts both her junior and senior years.
Renee Gibney, a senior majoring in both supply chain and marketing, won her first shirt her senior year playing volleyball. This was Renee’s first intramural sport she had played at Iowa State, because she usually works out alone and wasn’t interested in Intramurals at the beginning. She was extremely excited when her friends asked her to be on the team and would call herself the MVP (even though she said her teammates would disagree). To Renee, winning an intramural shirt makes her thrilled to have memorabilia that is specific to sports at Iowa State. She had always remembered her older sister (who also went to Iowa State) saying “intramural shirts were always a big deal.”
