Fitness Instructor Training

The Recreation Services Fitness Program recruits instructors from the student community. Fitness Instructor training is available through the Department of Recreation Services. Fitness Instructor Training Program Details

This program is designed to teach you everything you will need to know to become an ISU Recreation Services Fitness Instructor, and to prepare you to take the ACE (American Council on Exercise) group fitness instructor certification exam. The course will consist of a lecture portion and practical portion. Attendance on both days is required. At the end of the course, you will complete an audition by teaching a mock fitness class to determine skill eligibility to be hired as a fitness instructor for ISU Recreation Services. To qualify to register you must:

  • Be a currently enrolled Iowa State University student
  • Have at least 3 semesters remaining until graduation

Spring 2019 Fitness Instructor Course

Time: Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:00pm-4:30pm
Dates: January 29th through April 25th
Location: State Gym 1218
Cost: There is a $75.00 fee to be paid the second week of the class.

Spring 2019 Yoga Instructor Training

For those interested in teaching yoga we will be hosting a YogaFit Level 1: Foundations course at State Gym in March 2019. This is a nationally recognized Yoga Certification program. A instructor from YogaFit will be here to lead the training. YogaFit Level 1 – Ames, IA 

Dates: March 9th & 10th
Time: Saturday and Sunday from 8:00am-5:00pm
Location: State Gym 2218
Cost: $382 for students, this is with a 15% student discount and registered by Early Bird deadline – Feb. 9th

Personal Trainer Training

Personal Trainer Training Program Details

This program is designed to teach you everything you will need to know to become an ISU Recreation Services personal trainer, and to prepare you to take the ACE (American Council on Exercise) personal trainer certification exam. The course will consist of a lecture portion and practical portion. Attendance on both days is required. At the end of the course, you will complete a practical and a mock assessment to determine skill eligibility to be hired as a personal trainer for ISU Recreation Services. To qualify to register you must:

  • Be a currently enrolled Iowa State University student
  • Be registered in College of Human Sciences coursework
  • Have at least 3 semesters remaining until graduation

Spring 2019 Personal Trainer Course

Time: Mondays & Wednesdays from 4:00pm-5:30pm
Dates: Starting January 23rd through April 24th
Location: First Meeting in State Gym 1218
(Lower level Multipurpose Room)
Cost: There is a $75.00 fee to be paid the second week of the class.
