What is Personal Training?

Personal training is an opportunity to work one-on-one with a student personal trainer at Recreation Services. You will receive a program that has been individually created for your fitness level and goals. ISU personal trainers have the background, knowledge, and experience essential in designing a program that will work for you.

Our mission is to provide you with the skills and knowledge to improve your fitness. We are committed to helping you reach your fitness goals in a motivated, knowledgeable and non-judgmental atmosphere.

The outcome of personal training will vary for each individual. Results depend upon personal application, realistic goals, and a commitment to the program. Combined with a personal commitment from you, personal training will:

  • Help you exercise safely and effectively
  • Provide encouragement and motivation
  • Help you set & achieve fitness goals
  • Celebrate your achievements
  • Provide new exercise program and fitness enhancement ideas

Who are the Trainers?
Recreation Services personal trainers are students at Iowa State University. All trainers have completed a semester-long personal training program and have been hand-selected to represent Recreation Services. Trainers are working toward, or have already earned, a national certification by the American Council on Exercise. They also continue to take fitness education courses to stay up-to-date with current industry research and trends.

How to Get Started:
Step 1: Complete this Online Personal Training Services Request Form
Step 2:  Look for your confirmation email explaining next steps for the Personal Training Services Request process.
Step 3: Confirm your fitness consultation meeting with the Personal Trainer who has sent you a fitness consultation meeting e-mail.

How Long Will This Process Take?
This process can take 5-10 days to receive a response. If you have not received a consultation meeting request e-mail form a personal trainer after this time period or have questions please contact Nora Hudson, Assistant Director of Fitness via email:

Renewal or Purchasing of Personal Training Packages:
If you are a current personal training client wanting to renew a personal training package, or have received a confirmation e-mail from a Personal Training Service Request process and want to purchase a new personal training package you may click on the links above to take you to the online payment process.

Please Note: You must have a current Recreation Services membership to utilize and purchase personal training services. Sessions must be completed within six (6) months of purchase.
