After getting swept two weeks ago, the Division II Cyclones picked up a sweep of their own this weekend.
Cyclone Hockey (2-2-0) defeated the Division II Jamestown Jimmies (3-5-1) by a score of 4-1 on Saturday.
Assistant Coach Shaun Gibbons said he was impressed with how the Cyclones played following the Friday night tie.
“They came out flying,” Gibbons said. “The energy was really high and that really set the tone for us.”
Jordan Hillman lit the lamp 3:06 into the first period to give the Cyclones the lead they would never relinquish. Garrett White and Jarett Green tallied the assists.
Zach Perez doubled the lead with a goal at 11:20 off of the passes from Jon Koester and James Frantz. The Cyclones held that 2-0 lead going into the first break.
Jamestown responded with a goal in the first minute of the second period. Keaton Cline got the puck past Cyclone goalie Patrick Egdorf at the 16-second mark.
The Cyclones again increased their lead later in the period as defenseman Cameron Barto scored a short-handed goal at 14:50. James Frantz tallied the assist on Barto’s first goal as a Cyclone.
Mike Siemering scored an unassisted goal at 2:25 in the third period to complete the scoring.
In both nights, Gibbons saw the team respond to shuffling lines as the team battled injuries. The Cyclones drifted away from their systems on Friday at times but got back on track during Saturday’s game, according to Gibbons.
“I thought systematically, the game was very good,” Gibbons said. “The guys were able to adapt well.”
The Cyclones killed both of their penalties while the Jimmies killed all three of theirs.
Cyclone goalie Patrick Egdorf picked up his second win while recording a save percentage of 0.944. The Cyclones outshot the Jimmies 51-18.
“The energy was the key,” Gibbons said. “The guys came ready to play and that’s the outcome we want, obviously walking away with a win.”
The Division II Cyclones travel to face the Division II University of Mary Marauders on Oct. 30 and 31 in a rematch of the Oct. 9 and 10 matchups. The Cyclones also play at Division II Jamestown on Nov. 1.
