The Division II Cyclones (2-3-0) lost to the University of Mary Marauders (10-0-1) on Friday night by a score of 2-0.
Despite an overall good effort, the Cyclones were unable to come away with a win.
“The boys played as hard as they could,” said Assistant Coach Shaun Gibbons. “They did everything right in the systems. That’s the way it goes sometimes.”
The game started fast with each team registering goal scoring chances in the first period. Despite all the early action, the game remained scoreless until almost halfway through the third period.
Marauder forward Zach Garrett was able to get the puck past Cyclone goalie Patrick Egdorf 7:29 into the third.
“It kind of took the wind out of our sails,” Gibbons said. “We had a push towards the end and they ended up scoring another one.”
The second University of Mary goal came by way of Drew Lenertz at 10:08 in the third.
Egdorf finished the game with 23 saves and a save percentage of 0.920. Marauder goalie Kyle Hayden saved every shot that came his way.
“Their goalie played unbelievable,” Gibbons said. “We outshot them 44-25. We just couldn’t find the back of the net.”
The teams meet again at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday in Bismarck, North Dakota. A live stream will be available for the game (link: https://nsicnetwork.com/goumary/).
“I have high hopes for tomorrow and I know the guys do as well,” Gibbons said.
