Registration

Group Fitness User Cards are required in order to participate in the group fitness classes. Cards are free for verified currently enrolled/fee assessed students and for eligible students who have purchased a Continuing Student Pass. Cards are $30 per semester for faculty and staff and $40 per semester for Alumni Association members. Fitness Cards may be acquired at either the Lied Recreation Athletic Center (anytime it is open) or at The Recreation Services Administrative Office, Helser Trailer, SE of State Gym, Lot 59F, between Martin and Helser residence halls (M-F, during office hours - usually 8 AM - 5 PM).

* ALL classes are subject to cancellation due to low participation numbers and are subject to change in class format, instructor, class time.

* Group Fitness Evaluation forms are available outside of each studio and can be found online. Your input is appreciated and contributes to the success of the group fitness program!

Lied Recreation Athletic Center Students are required to present their red ISU ID card for admission to the Lied Recreation/Athletic Center. Faculty/Staff must have a current Lied pass to participate in fitness classes at the Lied Recreation Center.

Class Information

Attendance Group Fitness class participants must arrive prior to class start time. Late arrivals will not be admitted into the class. This policy is intended to reduce disruptions and interruptions, and to provide the best service to all participants. Thank you for your cooperation.

Class Descriptions

Beginner: Easy to follow with moderate intensity.
Intermediate: Intervals of moderate/high fitness skill and intensity levels.
All: Work at own pace and intensity.
Advanced: High level of fitness conditioning demands. Not recommended for beginner exerciser.

Body Pump A weight training class to rhythmic music using varying resistance equipment that will leave every muscle “pumped up.” ALL
Butts & Guts The best leg, butt & abs exercises for the ultimate blast in lower body conditioning. ALL
Cardio Express A 30 minute cardio blast perfect for a quick lunch time break! BEG/ALL
Cardio Kick Cardio workout with a "punch." This class blends aerobic class format with kickboxing moves to ensure a real knock down fun class. ALL
Cardio Mix A blend of various cardio workouts, step, kickboxing and high/low impact to get a heart-pumping, calorie-burning workout. BEG/INT
Extreme Abs A 20-minute class focusing on various abdominal and back exercises to improve core strength. INT
Fitness Workout A muscle focused workout to improve strength and conditioning to enhance general fitness levels. BEG
Fitness Yoga This is a full-body workout that teaches the skills to perform a series of movements known as “Sun Salutation” used in most yoga classes. This class encourages holding postures, conscious breathing to enhance flexibility, strength, mental focus and relaxation. ALL
Happy Hour It’s five o’clock somewhere! This class offers a workout that is FUN and different each week. ALL
Pilates Matwork Extreme abs to the maximum - you will work all the key core muscles with amazing results. ALL
Step Jive A step class with exciting choreography that really JIVES. Designed for participants who thirst for HOT MOVES. Limited to the first 20 participants. INT/ADV
Triple X This class is divided into 20 minute segments combining the perfect combination of CARDIO, SCULPTING, and YOGA providing a great workout for those wanting to try a variety of formats. ALL
Turbo Kick Straight from California’s own Chalene Johnson, the evolution of kickboxing is here! Don’t miss this heart pumping hour-long party that will leave you kicking and screaming for more. BEG/INT
Ultimate Step A high energy workout incorporating a variety of creative combinations to get your heart pumping on the step. Limited to the first 20 participants. INT

Cy-Cycle Uses many different formats to have fun. Come get a taste of all our rides where format and music change every week! BEG/ALL
Expedition I Intro class to cycling. Learn the techniques of riding flats, hills and jumps while effectively managing the spin-to-intensity ratio for a great workout. BEG/ALL
Expedition II Crank up the gears for an intense cycling workout travelling all possible terrains and beyond! INT/ADV
Heat Feel the temperature rise in the cycling studio. This class is designed to help you feel the burn! Combining muscle conditioning exercises with a great cycling workout, you are bound to burn those calories! BEG/INT
High Performance Recreational athletes will love this muscular endurance cross training workout to enhance fitness performance INT/ADV
Pedal Power Intervals (easy, hard, long, slow) using all the cycling moves with maximum pedal power for high fitness gains. ALL
AQUA Forker Pool (Shallow) & Beyer Hall Pool (Deep)
Aquacise Forker: Fun movements in shallow water to work out your body without the strain and pain of land-based exercise. BEG/ALL
Water Circuit Forker: A great interval workout of alternating cardio drills and strength exercises in shallow water for a total body workout. ALL
Deep Water Challenge Beyer: A non-impact workout that challenges participants to work hard for cardiovascular and muscular strength gains using aqua belts, gloves, and dumb-bells. Every muscle will be worked!!!! ALL
MIND/BODY Beyer Room 301, 3rd Floor Studio
Advanced Yoga A class for students who want to challenge their mind and body. This class incorporates holding postures longer and advanced physical postures like headstand, standing balance and arm balance. Prior Knowledge and skill in yoga is highly recommended INT/ADV
Beginning Yoga An introduction to the basic movements called postures, and breath work done in a gradual progressive manner BEG/ALL
Fitness Yoga This is a full-body workout that teaches the skills to perform a series of movements known as “Sun Salutation” used in most yoga classes. This class encourages holding postures, conscious breathing to enhance flexibility, strength, mental focus and relaxation. ALL
Meditation Using a wide variety of approaches to clear and focus the mind while relaxing the body. ALL
Pilates Matwork A series of core exercises designed to create that long and lean muscle shape with amazing results throughout the body. ALL
Wellness Yoga A therapeutic style of yoga that emphasizes linking breath with movement and modification of postures for a health and wellness effect. This is a great class for individuals new to yoga and/or having neck or back health issues. BEG/ALL
Yoga Flow Experience a yoga class that moves in and out of postures to create a deeper stretch and strength relationship in the body. ALL
YO-PI This class blends the graceful movement of yoga with the foundational exercises of Pilates to get a fun mind-body workout. ALL
  • Each semester participants must sign a waiver and acquire a Group Fitness Card for class participation. In addition, a valid ISU Card/pass is required for classes held in the Lied Recreation Center.
  • Participation numbers lower than four (4) after the first two weeks of class may result in dropping the class from the schedule. Please check website for schedule changes.
  • Summer heat conditions may cause class cancellation. Call Lied Front Desk 294-7140 for heat condition cancellations.
  • **Air conditioning renovation will be occurring during late July in the Lied Fitness Studio. Class schedules will be affected.
  • Due to maintenance, renovation, facility cleaning project, and special recreational activities, specific activity and/or service areas of the facilities may be restricted to limited access or be closed entirely for varying periods of time. When possible, Recreation Services will post advance notice of pending service disruptions and activity area closure
