Group Fitness Training

The Recreation Services, Fitness Program promotes and recruits instructors from the student community. Instructor training is available during the fall and spring semesters, as well as continuing education for the certified instructor. Group Fitness Instructor Training Program Details

Dates:  Tuesdays and Thursdays, January 24 thru April 20, 3:00 PM – 4:30 PM
Cost:  $50 plus materials (paid after the 1st week of classes/nonrefundable)

Details:  This program is designed to teach you everything you will need to know to become a group fitness instructor for ISU Recreation Services, and to prepare you to sit for an ACE (American Council on Exercise) certification exam if you aspire to do so in the future. The course will consist of a lecture portion on one day and a practical portion on the other day. Attendance on both days is required.  At the end of the course, you will audition to complete the process of becoming a group fitness instructor for ISU Recreation Services. Must be a current Iowa State student with at least 3 semesters remaining.

Personal Trainer Training

The Recreation Services, Fitness Program promotes and recruits personal trainers from the student community. Personal Trainer training is available through the Department of Recreation Services. For more information about becoming a personal trainer, contact Nora Hudson, Assistant Director at nhudson@iastate.edu.

Personal Trainer Training Program Details

Dates:  Mondays and Wednesdays, January 23 thru April 19, 3:30 PM – 5:00 PM 
Cost:  $50 plus materials (paid after the 1st week of classes/nonrefundable)

Details:  This program is designed to teach you everything you will need to know to become an ISU Recreation Services personal trainer, and to prepare you to take the ACE (American Council on Exercise) personal trainer certification exam if you aspire to do so in the future. The course will consist of a lecture portion and practical portion. Attendance on both days is required. At the end of the course, you will complete a practical and a mock assessment to complete the process of becoming a personal trainer for ISU Recreation Services. Must be a current Iowa State student with at least 3 semesters remaining.
