Eligibility and Rates
Users, omitting sponsored guests, must present a valid ISUCard encrypted with the current version number in order to gain access to Recreation Services Facilities in addition to renting a locker. Contact the ISUCard Office at 294-2727 for information on how to obtain an ISUCard.
In some cases, your ISUCard may need to be activated by the Administrative Office before you can purchase a pass. The Administration Office, 1180 State Gym, is open 8 AM to 5 PM, Monday-Friday.
STUDENT (STUDENT PASS)
All students currently enrolled at Iowa State University, and who are assessed the current Activity, Services, Building & Recreation Fee, are issued a Student Pass. (Locker rental is available for a fee). Locker Fees
NOTE: In some instances, an enrolled student is not automatically assessed the Activity Fee. Examples include internships, distance education, and Admissions Partnership students. These students will need to complete the web form found at http://www.registrar.iastate.edu/activityfee in order to be assessed the Student Activity Fee. They may NOT purchase a Non-Enrolled Student Pass or a Rec Pass.
Activity, Services, Building and Recreation Fee: The activity, services & building fee is a mandatory fee that supports a variety of activities and services for all students. It is not based on whether or not a student uses an individual activity or service. This fee provides several benefits such as student admission rates to concerts and athletic events, and unlimited use of CyRide, the Ames bus system. In addition, the fee provides support for campus recreation facilities, the Memorial Union, and campus organizations and services as allocated by the Government of the Student Body.
NON-STUDENT (REC PASS)
All non-students must be 18 years of age or older and have a current, valid ISUCard. The following are included in the Non-Student category:
- Student Spouses and Dependents
- Employees, Spouses, and Dependents (i.e. faculty, staff, post doc, visiting professor)
- Retired Employees and Spouses
- Alumni Association Members with a current, valid Alumni Association ISUCard. (Instructions)
- Approved Affiliate Employees
Affiliate Spouses are not eligible to be issued an ISUCard, however, they are eligible to purchase a Non-ISUCard Holder pass.

NON-ENROLLED STUDENT (NES PASS)
The following are eligible to purchase an NES Pass, once eligibility has been verified by the Recreation Services Administrative Office. This pass is a one-semester pass only and is not available for consecutive semesters. The cost of this pass is equal to the Recreation Services portion of the Student Activity Fees assessed to registered students. Non-Enrolled students may not purchase month or week passes.
Continuing Student: A student must have been enrolled and have completed the previous academic session at ISU. This pass allows continued access during a semester or summer session when they are not officially enrolled as students.
New Student: A student must be officially enrolled for the next academic sessions at ISU and have never been enrolled at ISU at any time in the past. This pass allows the student access during a semester prior to starting classes at ISU.
All guests must be 18 years of age or older. (Exceptions only during family hours at State/Beyer)
Guests of an eligible user, with a current pass, may purchase a $6, one-day pass with a valid ID. The sponsor must stay in the facility with their guest during the visit.
Guests attending an ISU-sponsored conference may purchase a one-day pass by presenting a valid photo ID and proof of conference attendance. For a week or month pass contact the Administrative Office, 294-4980, 1180 State Gym.
REC PASS FEES
Enrolled on-campus students are automatically assessed the full mandatory activity fee. http://www.registrar.iastate.edu/fees
Daily Guest Pass – $6 (Eligible User or Sponsored Guest)
Memberships (Rec Pass) can be purchased at either the State Gym service desk or the Lied service desk anytime the buildings are open. All contracts and forms are available at the service desks. All fees are subject to change.

|NOTE: Month and Week Pass holders are NOT eligible to rent lockers, to play Intramural Sports, and they must pay the Non-Pass holder (higher) rate for Outdoor Recreation equipment rental, trips and workshops.|

If eligible, non-enrolled students may either purchase this pass or $6 daily passes. They are NOT eligible for month passes. The cost of the NES pass is the Recreation Services portion of the student activity fee.
Recreation Services passes and program registrations are paid in full at the time of purchase.
A refund or cancellation will be granted only on the following basis:
- Exit from the University that prohibits active participation for the remaining period of membership
- Program cancellation due to lack of enrollment
Same Day Refunds
A same day refund can be made if a patron changes their mind about a purchase or a pass on the day that it was purchased. Refunds must be made using the same payment method as the original purchase.
Non-Same Day Refunds
Refunds or transactions that do not occur on the day that a refund is requested may be done by filling a Refund Request form that may be filled out at the facility Service Desk.
All refunds require the approval of the ISU Recreation Services Business Office. Refunds may take several weeks to process.
